My name is Carissa Matthews (Dill) and I am the SEA Literacy/Numeracy/Assessment Coordinator. I work in this capacity with all of our schools within SEA to help support schools and coordinate programming and assessment in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy primarily, as well as other SEA Initiatives and Social Media Informational Presence.
I have worked for Stoney Education Authority for many years now, and began my career at Morley as a Junior High teacher. I have also taught elementary grades, and coached High School basketball for many years at MCS. I worked in Administration and other Coordinator roles within SEA for 7 years prior to this current role.
Before teaching in Alberta, I taught in Oklahoma and Texas.
I was born in Texas, and raised in Durant, Oklahoma. I have a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with Teaching Certification in Oklahoma and the Province of Alberta. My parents have had careers in education from both teaching and administrative perspectives ranging from public school to university level.
I live in Cochrane, AB, and moved to Canada in 1997. I have 2 lovely daughters, Cassidy (21) and Caitlyn (18), who are now graduating from the University of Saskatchewan and Bow Valley High School, and will be attending Olds College this Fall.
I am of the Choctaw and Cherokee Nation of Southeast Oklahoma.
My career with SEA has been the most fulfilling time of my life. I value the culture, people, community, and students of this great nation more than I could have ever thought possible, and teaching and being a part of the education and future of the children of this nation is one of the greatest achievements I think I could ever reach in my lifetime.
